Tinderbox conditions and soaring temperatures are fuelling a hazardous scenario for the region’s plantation owners, which have their firefighting arsenal on standby to respond to any emerging incidents. Dozens of firefighters and firefighting equipment has been mobilised across the region and harvesting activities have ceased. The community is expected to swelter through two consecutive days of 40 degrees today and tomorrow following the mercury yesterday climbing to the midthirties. Continued page 6 City basketball set for shake-up DECLARING entry into the Adelaide Premier League “unsustainable”, Mount Gambier Pioneers Basketball Club president Tom Kosch has revealed the organisation is committed to finding an alternative competition beyond 2019. Speaking at a breakfast meeting with the city’s business sector on Wednesday, Mr Kosch - along with championship-winning head coach Richard Hill - outlined the deep hurt caused to the club following Basketball Australia’s decision to disband the South East Australia Basketball League.
