Pick ‘em like Peckham Memorable year for leading trainer OntheLure with DAVID LEWIS IN what has been a memorable year, 40-year-old David Peckham, of Allendale East, has won the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club’s Leading Trainer award for the third successive time. Peckham trained 58 winners, 60 seconds and 50.5 thirds for a total of 401.5 points (based on a 4, 2, 1 scoring system). Peckham’s year was highlighted by the performances of Thanks Tubby which led the way with most wins at Tara Raceway when successful on 16 occasions. She also ran a 512 metre record of 29.60 seconds on June 1. The leading trainer won numerous feature races throughout the year with his best training performance being on September 7 when Dash Dash Dot, Cool And Amazing, Young Gunner and Bourne Again were successful. From a Greyhound-of-the-Year point of view, Thanks Tubby was unable to withstand a barnstorming December finish by Rouse Flyer and eventually went down by six points. Horsham will join three Mount Gambier based clubs, the Blue Lake Knights, Eastern Dragons and Gambier Warriors as well as the Naracoorte Jets which won last year’s inaugural MGRL winter premiership. MGRL president, Mr Daniel Hansen is thrilled with the public response to the Rugby League competitions that have been held to date and is expecting the 2015 summer roster to be equally successful. The 10 week roster will rotate matches between Naracoorte, Horsham and East Gambier with the League’s spiritual home, remaining as McDonald Park with solid support from the East Gambier Sportsmen’s Club.
