ROD rod.morris@tbw.com.au SOUTH Gambier has missed the opportunity to hold all three of the Mount Gambier District Cricket Association’s premierships in the one calendar year when it was comprehensively thrashed by arch-rivals, North in last Sunday’s XXXX Gold One Day Cup. Played at Malseed Park in windy conditions, the 40-over One Day grand final was as one-sided as organisers didn’t want it to be. The XXXX Gold Cup originated in the 2008-09 season and Sunday was the fourth time North had clinched the title, including back-to-back successes. The two Tigers scored at a fast clip and their third wicket partnership yielded 136 runs. Kenny’s whirlwind innings of 92 included 62 runs in fours and sixes before South bowler Matt O’Neil broke the stumps. McInerney continued on his merry way before he was eventually dismissed by David Somerfield for 102. In a man-of-the-match performance, McInerney plundered 14 fours and one six and with Matt Walmsley-Pace, the pair added 49 runs for the fourth wicket. Walmsley-Pace remained 49 not out and with Michael Silvy (16 not out), took North’s score along to 286 from its full allotment of 40 overs. South used seven different bowlers in its attempt to rout North and to a large degree, most were left with punishing figures. Cruise was the only multiple wicket taker with 2/60 while Somerfield and O’Neil both took 1/53 from eight overs.
