18 NEWS Seawall design tenders close TENDERS have now closed for the design of the Pelican Point seawall, which was initiated by Grant District Council. “Council administration are now having discussions with Coast Protection Board on funding matters and legal options on the future recovery of any council funds that may be expended on this project,” council chief executive officer Trevor Smart said. “Council will need to further consider its position to this project and a report will be provided to council for further consideration.” The local government body has been in talks with landowners for some time in an attempt to identify a solution and way forward for the protection of private property and coast protection strategy. The current seawall was illegally built by landowners and has been subject to court proceedings.
