FOR HOME SPORT www.borderwatch.com.au Banking support Major sponsor back on board for 2015 MORRIS ROD rod.morris@tbw.com.au IN a positive sign of stability, the Mount Gambier and District Community Bank has signed on a fifth consecutive season as naming rights sponsor of the Western Border Football League. The WBFL has endured a tough time in recent years with the loss of four foundation clubs and the announcement of the MGDCB – also known as the Bendigo Bank – continuing its support is a massive injection of faith. Second year WBFL president, Mr Clyde Lawrence and League secretary, David Heard met with Bendigo Bank branch manager, Tracy Koop earlier this week to confirm the ongoing sponsorship. “The extension of our partnership with the Bendigo Bank will enhance our ability to deliver vital support to all our member clubs, on and off the playing arena.” Mr Lawrence said. “The Bank’s generous support will also assist with the implementation of our strategic plan for the League’s future growth and prosperity.” Mrs Koop said the Bendigo Bank is pleased to announce its continued sponsorship of the WBFL in 2015. “We have a strong belief that the WBFL will continue to grow in the future and we are happy to assist them with their support of local clubs and players,” she said. “It is pleasing to see the good work that the WBFL has achieved with programs that promote health awareness, team spirit and a community involvement between all clubs. “We wish all teams involved with the WBFL great success in 2015 and we are proud to have our name associated with a League that shares the same community values as the Bendigo Bank.” The WBFL’s 2015 season is shaping as an exciting one, kick-starting on Saturday week (March 14) with the 10th annual pre-season Elastoplast Cup, which – for the first time – will be hosted by the North Gambier Football Club at Vansittart Park and aside of the six member Western Border clubs will also feature KNTFL clubs, Padthaway and Naracoorte. The season proper will start with an historic Easter Thursday (April 2) night clash between East and West at McDonald Park, while the remainder of the Round 1 games will be held on April 11 when Casterton/Sandford host reigning premier North Gambier and Millicent will be at home against South Gambier.
