McQuade has room to move in stableford DUE to the annual Southern Ports Golf Week tournament and several Blue Lake Golf Club female members competing there, coupled with course renovations underway at the links layout, last Wednesday’s competition was reduced to a 9-hole stableford. Only a small sized field decided to take up the option of playing. Joan McQuade topped the leaderboard with 21 points, two ahead of Judy Jericho who in turn was 3-points in front of Raylene Anderson, Helen Stratford and Fay Price. The nearest the pin prize was won by Rose Case. Blue Lake Golf Club players, Lynda Nannings and Cherryl Hill both met with success at the SPGW tourney. Nannings won the B Grade 54-hole Handicap Strokeplay Championship while Hill finished runner-up in the C Grade 54-hole Stableford Championship. Both won significant prizes for their respective wins at the tournament which rotated through the Kingston, Robe and Beachport courses. With Nannings hitting a purple patch of form in recent weeks she will now have her eyes on the 2015 Belgiornos sponsored BLGC Women’s Handicap Championship which will start today with the first qualifying round. Nannings’ handicap has dropped from 25 to 23 and she will head into the tournament carrying the tag of favourite. Today’s open championship round will coincide with the first round of the 2015 Captain’s Trophy sponsored by Margaret Street Meats. 659987
