alive LIMEST ONE C O AST Tribute explores dark days of Man in Black ONE of the most iconic, influential and enigmatic performers in country music will be reborn in a tribute show at the Portland Arts Centre in May. Daniel Thompson, the voice of Johnny Cash, is back with In Solitary, an intimate portrait of the Man in Black. During the past five years, Thompson has been at the helm of Johnny Cash The Concert, playing to more than 25,000 fans. Johnny Cash fans have enjoyed his faithful and respectful tribute to Cash and his music. In Solitary was born in 2014, moving away from the Johnny Cash The Concert shows. In Solitary focuses on a darker era of Johnny Cash, telling the story of the enigmatic artist and why his legend has grown since his death at age 72 in 2003. Thompson’s special guest on the In Solitary tour is multiple-award winning singer and songwriter Mike Carr on piano, guitar and vocals. After a highly successful tour last year, Thompson is excited to embark on a national tour with the intimate portrait of one of the most intriguing and iconic figures in the global music industry. MAN IN BLACK: Johnny Cash will be reborn during a national tour by Daniel Thompson, who will pay tribute to the Man in Black in an intimate evening at the Portland Arts Centre in May. A new twist on the Kelly legend Funny festival line-up on road SEVEN comedians who have just completed gigs at Adelaide Fringe Festival and are on their way to the Melbourne Comedy Festival will arrive for an International Women’s Day celebration in Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell this weekend. The comedians will appear at a luncheon at the Attamurra Golf Club on Saturday and a dinner at the Victoria Hotel in Port MacDonnell on Monday. Soroptimist International president Margie Russon said organisers were excited by the line-up of awardwinning artists. “It is a rarity for the Limestone Coast to host this sort of talent,” she said. Comedians performing alongside Julia Clarke include Ivan Aristeguita, Fabien Clark, Georgie Carroll, Angus Hodge, Justin Stone and Kel Balnaves. Port MacDonnell Tourist Association chair Theresa Moulden said not only will there be performances, but a number of art workshops will be held in Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell led by visual artist Julia Clarke, who specialises in speed portrait painting. “We encourage everyone to come along for some fun and laughter,” she said. It is the highest accolade awarded to blues musicians across Australia. The annual awards held at the Australian Blues Music Festival recognised outstanding achievement at a national level in the blues genre. Performing at festivals across the country, the Hammond organ trio features singer songwriter Evan Whetter on organ and harmonica, Erica Graf on guitar and Mario Marino on drums. With the new album Single Malt Blues to be launched April 18, Lazy Eye has more miles planned for their tour van. The trio has won over crowds across the country since 2013 and debut album Move Me was awarded album of the year at the South Australian Blues and Roots Awards. Lazy Eye will perform in Millicent at the Somerset Hotel tomorrow and Mount Gambier at The Commercial Hotel on Saturday night.
