Murray Greys pleasure to own, profitable to run LINDSAY Murray Greys at Pigeon Ponds enters a new phase in the stud’s history by holding its annual sale at their home base for the first time on March 1. After being held in conjunction with Boonaroo Angus, principals Craig and Jacinta Grant believe the time is right to once again establish Lindsay as a standalone quality Murray Grey offering. The opportunity to have flexibility to offer stud and commercial females and the process of not having the bulls travelling to and from another venue on sale day made an on-farm sale appealing. Lindsay will offer 30 quality Murray Grey bulls consisting of 10 autumn drop and 20 spring drop performance recorded young sires. Also available will be a selection of stud heifers and 15 very good rising 2.5 year old PTIC autumn calving commercial heifers. Well bred, marketed and prepared Murray Greys are making their mark on a buoyant beef industry in recent times, mixing it with the best in store and fat markets and achieving some great results. Lindsay Murray Greys’ aim is to present clients with industry relevant beef cattle with growth, muscle and softness while maintaining the breed’s Insurance for livestock LIVESTOCK are a farmer’s livelihood, and should something happen to the cattle, the cost to the business could be disastrous. Lakeside rapidly makes its mark LAKESIDE Simmental Stud is the new stud on the block in the Simmental world but although being only established in January of 2015 its short history is built on a wealth of breeding. Lily and Dong are a Chinese couple who in 2014 purchased a property in Robe in the South East of SA and have now ventured into breeding Simmental cattle in Australia. After 10 years of breeding Simmentals in Inner Mongolia, China and with a herd of 500 registered females, their passion to own a herd of Australian Simmental cattle has been achieved. The couple’s interest in the Australian cattle industry was fueled through visiting Australia in 2009 as representatives of the Commissioner of China Animal Agriculture Association and then representing the Chinese Simmental Breeders Association at the World Simmental Congress in 2010. After numerous visits to Australia and an ever growing desire to farm cattle in Australia, their dream became a reality. With the purchase of their Robe property an introduction was made by Laryn Gogel of Southern Australian Livestock to the Hodge and Parker Families of Waterfront stud and Dean Baker of Callendale stud. An interesting and successful journey began with the purchase of the complete mature breeding female herd with calves at side of the Waterfront stud and the principle female breeding group of the Calendale stud. A wealth of genetics has been brought together to create a 250 female nucleus breeding herd which now forms the Lakeside stud. Lakeside will participate in the South Australian Beef Field Days as part of the Lower South East displays on February 8, opening their Robe property to visitors. Their first sale will be held at Naringa Park, Naracoorte on February 12 when Lakeside will offer 28 stud and herd improving sires and 10 young stud females joined to AI sires.
