Dancers enjoy eisteddfod success MJ Dance students perform well ahead of Melbourne Showcase MORE than 120 students from MJ Dance Studio competed in the Mount Gambier Eisteddfod last week. The studio had a successful week, with a total of 43 firsts, 17 seconds, 16 thirds, 17 highly commended and 14 honourable mentions. Dancers were successful in gaining first places in many styles, including hip-hop, classical, lyrical, contemporary, song and dance, character and jazz, proving opportunities are available for every type of dancer. Major awards school aggregate: Total amount of points gained over the whole week. Troupe aggregate: total amount of points gained for troupes over the whole week. junior Classical scholarship: Halle Anderson. s enior Classi cal scholarship: Tennille Grubb. Under 12 age aggregate: Jessica Smart. open Contemporary/ Lyrical Championship: Courtney Jolley. Choreography award: Christina Jenkin for Sarah Mckinnon’s contemporary routine. Most Promising jazz dancer: Asha Rodda. Most Promising Local Classical dancer: Isabelle Wakefield. Competition students from the studio are now working towards Showcase Regionals in Melbourne and the Follow Your Dreams competition in Mount Gambier, both held in September. Studio director Maria Slape will also be busy over the next month judging in Adelaide and the Gold Coast. ● Results and images from other Mount Gambier dance schools participating in the eisteddfod will by published next week.
