6 NEWS VISIT US ONLINE borderwatch.com.au Quality crafts Judges pore over show entries JA T tr JACKSON TREVOR trevor@tbw.com.au JUDGING at the Mount Gambier Spring Show takes on many forms, from livestock through to arts and crafts. Judges need not just an eye for detail, but also a passion for the work. Sue Young has been judging arts and crafts in country shows for close to 15 years and this year makes her fi rst appearance at the Mount Gambier show. She said yesterday she was impressed with the standard of entries so far. “The standard at this show is superb,” she said. PASSION: Offi cial Chris MacDonald with judge Sue Young with some favourite items from the entries in the arts and crafts sections of this year’s Mount Gambier Spring Show. Pictures: TREVOR JACKSON “There are hundreds of hours that go into making these items.” Ms Young said she looked at a variety of elements when judging entries, from creativeness and design to perfection. But she said uniqueness always stood out above all else, pointing to a couple of entries that had taken second and third places in their class. “Look at her, she’s stomping grapes, what more could you want?” Ms Young said of one item. “And he is just gorgeous, regal, very handsome and so beautifully made.” Ms Young said she also created her own arts and crafts and could appreciate the work that goes into making many of the items on display. “People have such a passion for their work and they are so clever,” she said. Ms Young suggested people head down to the arts and craft display while visiting the show and be inspired by the quality entries. WED 30 OCT.
