New take on classic artform AN antique printing press was among the interesting equipment used to produce a range of artworks that are going on display in the Riddoch Art Gallery from tomorrow. Fourteen Thumbprint Workshop members will open their Unearthed - To Reveal or Discover exhibition in the gallery at 6pm with more than 30 artworks made using different printmaking techniques. A Chandler Price platen press, which was used widely in the late 1800s and available on a permanent basis to the artists in the gallery, was among the equipment used. Various techniques, including linocutting, have been used to produce the collection of works for the exhibition that will run until Sunday, November 17. Thumbprint Workshop began in 1993 and acts as a forum for artists to interact and develop. Over the years the group has organised exhibitions and workshops with artists profi cient in different printmaking techniques. Artists include Jean McArthur, Anne and Robert Miles, Bernadette Clifford, Dagny Strand, Sue Shaw and Stephanie Yoannidis. Doug Balnaves will open the exhibition tomorrow night and light refreshments and a cash bar will be available. ‘Madcap’ comedy delivers LIVE REVIEW ASHLEE FINNIS THE Mount Gambier Theatre Group has delivered an outstanding production of Noises Off - a play within a play, with bumbling actors and plenty of sardines. The play was produced by Tim Rochow. Not only was his satire easy to watch and enjoyable, he also played the role of Lloyd’s assistant, the frantic Tim. The set made by Peter O’Donohue was inspirational and well built. As a member of the audience, I found it interesting to see the set changes in full. Luke Pellen played producer Lloyd Dallas and his polished character was a mixture of calm to the other extreme of jealous rage. Paul Pfeiler played Gary Lejeune, a real estate agent entertaining a young lady in a country manor, with panache, especially in act two where during a mime he had people attacking him with an axe. Stephen Esnouf played tax-evading playwright Frederick Fellowes and for his portrayal of the uncertain and easily fl ustered husband, with his pants dissolving and getting glued to numerous objects I say “pants down, thumbs up”. I hope to see more of this young man. Kevin Kennedy stood out as aging actor Mr Selsdon Mowloray, a burglar who enjoys a drink or two and fi ne heirlooms. Mr Kennedy portrayed the bumbling burglar with fi nesse and had me in tears. A true portrayal of Dotty Otley played by Chris Summers was amazing in her role as housekeeper with endless plates of sardines, answering phones and keeping couples apart. Alice Bullock played poor Brooke the sexy secretary who has trouble with lost contact lenses and men. I found her to be a talented young actress, portraying a scantily clad lady with great aplomb. Karen Coleman as Belinda Blair, the wife of Frederick Fellowes, who is content with cleaning the attic in her role as the loving wife, was brilliant. Fiona Mitchell played assistant producer Poppy Norton-Taylor and had a small but integral role running on and off with the script and props. Overall I had a great night out, laughing so much I cried, and would highly recommend a night out when the theatre group presents its next play. The exhibition brings together the largest collection of her works in one place as private collectors made 48 pieces available for display, along with a selection that belongs to the gallery. The exhibition is the last opportunity to view so many of the talented artist’s works together. Ms Edkins died in Mount Gambier at the age of 86 in 2008.
