LIMESTONE COASTalive Burning passion gives rise to choir PHOENIX Music Studios will present its premiere gala concert next month, allowing the public to see the progress of singers and share in the joy of song. The school began at the beginning of 2013 with Jodi Swiggs as the director, joined by fellow teachers Kate McFarlane and Madison Clissold, teaching vocal, choral and piano music to individuals and groups of all ages. There are now 100 students enrolled and the Phoenix, Flame and Rise choirs feature around 60 singers. For the fi rst time, the school will host a concert at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre on November 2, starting at 7pm, with items from all the choirs, groups of individual students and some of the seniors performing pieces they have been working on this year as part of their studies. “We are so pleased to be able to give our students the opportunity to perform in our city’s largest theatre,” Ms Swiggs said. “There will be children as young as eight performing and they are so excited to be able to do this.” She said the school wanted to fi ll the theatre for the “one night only” performance. “We feel it will be wonderful for the students to perform to a full theatre and for the community to see the wonderful work that goes on at Phoenix and the phenomenal talent we have in our town,” she said. Tickets are available from the theatre box offi ce. BACK ON THE BIG STAGE: The Phoenix Rise Choir pictured at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre for the 2010 Mount Gambier Mayoral Gala Performance.
