Fuel reduction is one of the most important preparations you can undertake. The following are the minimum recommendations for fuel hazard reduction: - (For allotments 0.5 hectare or less in size) reducing fl ammable undergrowth on your property to a maximum height of 10 cm by spraying or slashing; (For allotments greater than 0.5 hectares in size) by mowing, slashing or grazing to a maximum height of 10cm, all undergrowth in a strip 5 metres wide as near as practicable to the perimeter of the allotment, and all undergrowth within 20 metres of a dwelling. Removal of any accumulated litter or waste materials (piles of tree cuttings beneath established trees, heaps of bark, piles of wood) that are close to any buildings; Pruning of any trees overhanging buildings; and Removal of leaf litter and debris from all gutters and roofs. These standards should be maintained throughout the entire Fire Danger Season – from 22nd November 2013 to 30th April 2014 however, these dates may be varied subject to the seasonal weather conditions. Council will commence assessments of properties for the level of fl ammable growth on 22nd October 2013. Should it be noted that fuel hazard reduction works have not been addressed on your property, Council can issue an order against property owners to ensure that necessary works are undertaken. If necessary Council can undertake the required works at your expense. An expiation notice of $315.00 may be imposed to landholders who do not comply with the Notice.
