SPORT NEWS TIPS sport@tbw.com.au Dismal day for Mount Gambier Bowling Club IT was a dismal weekend for the Mount Gambier Bowling Club pennant players as many sides struggled to claim a win across all divisions. The men’s Division 1 Red side played away to RSL Blue where it found the going tough, while Gary McIntyre, Brad Errock, Ken Smith and Noel Miller continued their winning streak 24-19. The other two teams did not fare that well, Bill Bremner, Peter Radley, Jeff England and Gary Widdison had a day they wished to forget going down 10-22 to Glen Wright’s foursome. While Daniel Langdon, Terry Bruhn, Ian Von Stanke and Bernie Shepherd lost 15-21 to Brenton Bruhn’s quartet. The Blue side also lost with only Rene Davis, John Hughes, Kym Jones and Peria Davis winning their rink 23-22 when they played RSL Red. Division 2 fared badly with all three sides losing the day but it was jubilation for Division 4 when it played Mount Gambier RSL and were the only team to come home with a win. Division 5 also lost the day when it played RSL. The women’s pennant saw disappointing results across the board. Division 1 players travelled to Naracoorte on Friday where it struggled to claim the win. Xenia Jones, Coral Clarke, Nelda Earl and Margaret Marshall played a great game under diffi cult windy conditions and held Jean Biggins, Doc Johnson, Bev King and Chris Johnson to a draw. However Leanne Hentschke, Jan McCarthy, Marika Heaver and Beryl Versluis found the going tough and floundered against Geulda Miles, Suzanne Bennett, Chris Murphy and Fay Vogel, going down 30-14. Division 2 travelled to Penola and again luck was against the Mount Gambier side, losing the game by one shot. Bev Neave, Jane Callleja, Mavis Edgcumbe and Barb Butchart had a flying start against Kay Fennell, Bett Wilkin, Stella Kidman and Nanette Wallace leading by eight shots on the l6th end but Penola slowly pegged back with Butchart just hanging on with a three shot lead. While on the other rink Heather Perry, Helen Kentish, Gaylene Leggett and Diane Mitchell struggled and lost by four shots. The aggregate social bowls is proving to be a popular event and again was well attended by keen bowlers, the winners were Don Fraser and Jan McCarthy.
