Separate agencies come together for cross-border bushfi re exercise HOLMES HO PH PHIL phil@tbw.com.au hil@ EMERGENCY services teams, in conjunction with Country Fire Service leaders from across the Limestone Coast, were in training mode on Friday with the Exercise Southern Border program. Working from the Mount Gambier Emergency Coordination Centre on Jubilee Highway, a scenario was set and the teams worked together to manage and resolve the situation. CFS regional commander John Probert said the exercise was crucial as emergency services crews prepared for the bushfi re season. “It’s a big day for everyone involved and we take this very seriously, treating the exercise as a real scenario,” he said. “There are so many different teams in the process and really it’s all about learning to work together. “We set a scenario where there were fi res at Mingbool and Myora Forest Reserve and all in all it has been very successful.” Teams in South Australia and Victoria worked together DOING THEIR BIT: Country Fire Service volunteer management support team member Fran Russell and CFS community engagement offi cer Vicki Hann centre their attention on the exercise.
