NEWS TIPS newsroom@tbw.com.au Appeal takes off School students fl y into action for RFDS THE Royal Flying Doctor Service has received a huge boost with the donation of $11,378 from the Mount Gambier campus of the Meridian School. When 31 students from the small private school were considering recipients for their first semester fundraising efforts, they discovered nearly every student’s family knew of or had experienced the services of the RFDS. After a visit to Mount Gambier airport and a tour of an RFDS aircraft, they were convinced they had found the right organisation and “Operation RFDS” swung into action. With the overhaul costs of an aircraft propeller more than $8000, the group set the amount as the target and a fullsize drawing of a four-bladed propeller appeared on the foyer wall of the school. Each blade was then coloured when $2000 was raised. A plan was hatched in the guise of a gold coin drive, with hopes to collect enough coins to fi ll the outline of a PC-12 aircraft. A six-metre-long silhouette of an aircraft was then added to the gym fl oor and the students emptied bag after bag of coins into the outline. “We encourage a spirit of giving and I applaud the recognition by the students of other community-minded and humanitarian activities,” school chief executive Andy Gooden said. “The RFDS epitomises the values of preserving and nurturing life.” Mount Gambier RFDS Support Group president Chris Driscoll gratefully accepted the gift on behalf of the RFDS. “The $11,378 is an incredible result,” she said. “These few students have raised an enormous amount of money. “The community’s generosity is astounding.” HUGE EFFORT: C campus of the Meri amazing $11,378 fo Service. hil idia or t NEWS 13 Children from the Mount Gambier campus of the Meridian School have raised an 1,378 for the Royal Flying Doctor TIPS newsroom@tbw.com.au Appeal takes off School students fl y into action for RFDS THE Royal Flying Doctor Service has received a huge boost with the donation of $11,378 from the Mount Gambier campus of the Meridian School.
