ADVERTISING FEATURE The breeds are back THE breed ring is making its comeback in the horse section at this year’s Mount Gambier Spring Show. The breed ring has been coming and going from the show over the last few years but this year has made a comeback and even youngstock classes have been included to add some spice. The Breed ring will be the site of some stunning breeds from the very fi ne Riding Ponies to the shaggy Shetlands and Welsh ponies to the smallest in minatures to the tallest in the heavy breeds. Included in the program are classes for standardbreds to showcase that the thoroughbred they have a life after racing. This breed has become very popular over recent years. The ring has attracted attention from competitors from Adelaide and over in Vic to as far away as NSW. Kenley Park Gypsy Cobs & Arabians are the only Gypsy Cob stud in the South East. Gypsy Cob 3 y/o Gelding Ambleside Finnlaggan was imported in Utero from the UK and has been very successfully shown with 3 Supreme Youngstock of Show Awards from his fi rst 3 shows. Rosedale Miss TJ, South Australians fi rst Purebred Gypsy Mare arrived in SA 5 weeks ago from Rosedale Stud in Tasmania. People flock to see the Gypsys and they will add some interest to the Breed section. 2013 the year of the rose THE 2013 Mount Gambier A&H Show is here once again and the Horticultural Pavilion is assured to be a hive of activity with a plethora of perfumes and a myriad of colours that is sure to excite any green thumb. This year’s feature is the Year of the Rose. A perfect spring lead up with excellent growing conditions will see a hotly contested competition with exhibitors from across the region vying for the title of Grand Champion rose. A $50 Banner voucher and a sash are on off er as well as bragging rights for the next 12 months. Come and see the many entries in the various flower, vegetable and floral design sections. With 220 classes in the open section there is sure to be something to interest everybody. Admire some of Mount Gambier’s fi nest cut flowers including a variety of rose specimens, native and South African flowers, irises and other garden varieties. Public will be able to view the cities most pampered pot plants including spectacular ferns, amazing orchids, bonsai, succulents and cacti. Come and have a laugh at some of the novelty entries including the deadest pot plant, best weed and adult fruit and vegetable creature. The new class of a garden sculpture made from largely recycled material, will see the imagination of exhibitors come to life. Parents are encouraged to come along and see their children’s entries in one of more of the 30+ junior horticultur classes, with many schools p in junior floral design, fruit and v creatures and the ever-popular scarecrow competition. The Mount Gambier Bons Club will be conducting their ever popular demonstrations from 1.00pm to 5.00 pm on Friday and 10.00 am to 6.00 pm on Saturday. The will be available to answ any questions you might ha about bonsai. On Friday and Saturday there will be representatives from the Mount Gambier Orchid Club available to answer any questions you might have about orchids. They will be conducting potting demonstrations from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm on Friday and 10.00 am to 4.00 pm on Saturday.
