The Border Watch encourages readers to submit photographs from events not covered by a Border Watch photographer Send photos and captions with name of the event to sam@tbw.com.au YOUTH WEEK SINGSTAR COMPETITION AT THE MAIN CORNER 1 2 MOUNT Gambier teenagers recently celebrated National Youth Week with a Singstar competition at the Main Corner. Girls representing a diverse age group stepped up to test their skills in the Playstation 3 game. Community development offi cer and organiser Alison Brash said the competition was another option for girls in the region. “Obviously over the holidays and throughout Youth Week we wanted to make sure that all the kids have something that interests them,” she said. “The Singstar competition is something we knew may be angled more at the girls, but it’s been a success and we’ll look to do it again next year.” All competitors sang twice, vying for the highest score by aiming to stay in tune with the song they chose. Because of You by Kelly Clarkson was a popular choice, along with Firefl ies by Owl City. Overall winner of the competition was 13-year-old Keira Palmerino. 1: Mairead Casey and Eva Urquhart sang in the Singstar competition. 2: Talented singer/songwriter Ruby Charlotte sang for the group. 3: Mount Gambier’s Keira Palmerino, 13, won the Singstar competition recently 3 4 conducted at the Main Corner. 4: Helping organise the day at Main Corner was James Freemantle and William Robertson 5: Courtney Mansfi eld, 12, with her little brother Reece Mansfi eld, three months, and friend Chloe Stephens, 12. 6: Caitlyn Maes, 12, sings with gusto. 7: Eva Urquhart (back left), Gaby Casey, Bridget Booth, Keira Palmerino, Caitlyn Maes, Mairead Casey (front left), Chloe Stephens and Courtney Mansfi eld all competed in the Singstar challenge. 5 6 22 - The Border Watch, Friday, October 25, 2013 22 The Border Watch Friday October 25 2013 7
