Murray Goulburn has announced a boost for the 2013/14 season of $0.09 per kilogram butterfat and $0.19 per kilogram protein. The step-up takes MG’s weightedaverage available price to $6p/kg milk solids and its end of season forecast to a range of $6.10-$6.30p/kg milk solids. Meanwhile, Warrnambool Cheese and Butter suppliers will receive a step-up of 16 cents per kilogram for butterfat and 40 cents per kilogram for protein. “This increase follows our scheduled October review and takes our weighted average milk price to $6.05p/kg milk solids,” Warrnambool Cheese and Butter managing director David Lord said. “We have also revised our forecast full year price to a range of $6.15 to $6.30 per kilogram milk solids.” Dairy farmers trying to claw back from a downturn in the industry will welcome the upward shift in the farmgate milk price. The news comes as a takeover of WCB looms, with three companies, including MG, entering the race to take over the high-profi le Warrnambool brand. Offers have also come from cheese powerhouse Bega and Canadian dairy heavyweight Saputo. Mr Lord said the latest WCB price step-up was retrospective and applied to milk supplied from July 1, 2013. “The payment will be made with October 2013 proceeds during November 2013 to current milk suppliers,” Mr Lord said. He said the full year forecast range was indicative only and the company would continue to update suppliers as part of the quarterly price review process. “We will review milk prices again in January,” Mr Lord said. He said it was pleasing to see continued stability in world dairy prices giving the company further confi dence in the outlook for the season. “Given the variability of the many external factors, such as milk supply growth, market demand, world dairy prices and exchange rates, the longer term outlook is more diffi cult to predict,” Mr Lord said. MG managing director Gary Helou said the international dairy market for key ingredients remained strong, underpinned by strong global demand, particularly for whole milk powder, which continues to trade at high levels “The Australian dollar has traded at lower levels, but has recently strengthened and remains a source of risk to current full year forecasts,” he said. “These factors combined with our ongoing focus on delivering value through improved business effi ciencies and innovation has meant that we are able to pass additional benefi ts to our farmer supplier/shareholders - our cooperative’s main objective. “This step-up provides a further $32m into Devondale - MG farm cash fl ows throughout 2013/14. “MG remains determined to deliver higher returns to its dairy farmer shareholders through operational excellence and innovation. “Each year, each step-up in milk price further highlights the vital importance of a successful farmer-controlled dairy co-operative to drive industry success and growth.” BREAST CANCER AWARENESS: The staff at Suttontown’s Mondelez factory have gone pink for the month of October. Picture: GEORGIA KELLY-BAKKER Cheese maker tickled pink to support breast cancer awareness STAFF at Suttontown’s Mondelez (formerly Kraft) factory have gone pink for October to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). The factory, which produces the popular Philadelphia brand, has added Strawberry Philly to its product line for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Fifty cents from each purchase of the strawberry cheese has been donated to the charity, with a target of $60,000. Philadelphia spokesperson Stephanie Saliba said she was thrilled the company was raising funds for the charity. “We’re committed to investing in the community where we live and work and we are pleased to be able to raise funds with our limited edition Strawberry Philly to help NBCF get closer to fi nding a cure for breast cancer, something that affects so many Australian women,” Ms Saliba said. She said the fruit-infused spreadable cream cheese was perfect for bagels, pancakes and muffi ns. VISIT US ONLINE borderwatch.com.au 543676 630730 631807
