Board pledge Liberals support agriculture funding MOUNT Gambier Liberal candidate Troy Bell is pleased the State Liberal Party has committed to reinstating $100,000 to the Advisory Board of Agriculture (ABA). Mr Bell said the board had been signifi cant in helping farmers to remain innovative. “This is a great step towards helping our farmers compete in a diffi cult marketplace and is an important victory for the many primary producers in Mount Gambier,” Mr Bell said. Mr Bell said the Labor Government had withdrawn the funding to the ABA from 2012. He said the Labor Government’s continued withdrawal of funding for primary production was creating a challenge for South Australian primary producers. 631944 30 ON THE LAND VISIT US ONLINE borderwatch.com.au Cattle Weekly sale prices slump MOUNT GAMBIER 1504 (-410) A SMALLER, mixed quality yarding consisting of 584 young cattle, 476 grown steers, 413 cows and 31 bulls sold to easing trade and processor competition on Wednesday from the usual buyers, while restockers operated only cautiously. Vealers were in good supply, with C3 steers lifting 8c due to strong supermarket and processor competition to sell from 158 to 222c and the equivalent heifers eased 3c to average 185c/kg. Yearling steers were scarce and restockers paid 155c/kg for C2 steers. The C3 steers to trade buyers eased up to 20c and returned from 150c to 193c, while C3 heifers were in abundance, easing 10c and returned from 142c to 180c/kg. The grown steers yarded generally lacked the quality of recent weeks, a small selection of lightweights attracted supermarket interest and they lifted 4c and sold from 165c to 200c, however heavyweight C3 steers eased 12c and returned from 155c to 185c/kg. Grown heifers were plentiful and D3 heifers eased 14c and sold from 128c to 144c, while Friesian manufacturing steers sold from 112c to 126c and D3 steers remained unchanged and returned from 128c to 148c/kg. A good quality yarding of cows sold to generally weaker processor demand with one buyer not participating, while restockers bought lightweight D2 cows at 120c/kg. Lightweight D2 cows to processors eased 2c and sold from 105c to 120c, while heavyweight D3 cows eased 12c and sold from 122c to 143c.
