We all need to understand what to do, to prepare, and plan to survive. With a full day of soccer action ahead, International and fellow South Australian representatives will be looking to take home the Club Challenge Cup. Two games will follow International’s 10am kick-off with women and super-league championship teams competing in the tournament. Western Australia took out the win last year after claiming two out of three wins on the day, however this year South Australia are determined to steal a win of its own. Having been in this position before, International coach Tony D’Agostino said his team is ready to Bueti (vice captain), Sam Bueti, Nick Morony and Ricky McRobert; goalkeepers Brayden May and Norton Fuller (reserve); youngsters Matt Morony, Tom Weedon and Will Circelli; alongside the infl uential Dave Galloway, Brayden Nunan and Patrick Arratia; with allrounders Matt Weistra, Alex Sims and Rashidi Edward. Showing supreme confi dence in his team D’Agostino said the side is very talented. CLUB CHALLENGE: International’s Matt Weistra is a key member of the 16 man squad heading to Adelaide to take on North Perth United in the interstate fi nals of Football Federation South Australia’s Association Club Challenge on Sunday. Picture: TREVOR JACKSON bounce back from last year’s interstate final encounter. “Last year we fell short against WA’s Hammersley Rovers, losing by 2-3, they had a number of strong players with plenty of playing experience and we found it difficult to fi nish off,” he said. “It is a definite advantage having been in this position before as we know the level of competition and this time we are ready.” After such a successful season D’Agostino said the team has worked hard for this opportunity. “The boys have worked so hard all year, they are incredibly committed to the game and the club,” he said. “I do feel we have a stronger squad coming to the event this time around and I have faith in their ability to shake things up on the pitch and hopefully come away with a win.” D’Agostino announced a 16 man squad to accompany him, assistant coach Gareth Von Duve, trainer Linda McRobert and team manager Angelo Macera to the Adelaide event. The side includes veterans Christian Cella (captain), Matt “I am lucky to have the opportunity to work with these players and attend events like this because they are a talented squad with plenty of strengths,” he said. “This squad has the talent to come through on game day, with our strong attack and solid defence combining with the midfi eld, we are quietly confi dent the boys can pull through.” D’Agostino said there are a number of stand out players in his line up for the fi nal. “There are plenty of skilled players in this side but I can’t go past our forward Matt Bueti, he scored 10 goals at the regional tournament and was named player of the carnival, he will be very infl uential on Sunday,” he said. “Our backline has gone from strength to strength this year, conceding few goals over the course of the season.” International players and coaching staff will take a bus to Adelaide on Saturday ready to face North Perth United on Sunday with plenty of supporters making the trip to cheer on their local side. Altered start for Barber Shield TREVOR J CKSON TREVOR JACKSON We need everyone’s help to buy aircraft and keep the ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR fl ying. Please send your donations to: PO Box 1426, Mount Gambier, SA 5290 50 - The Border Watch, Friday, October 25, 2013 IT will be an altered start to the Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association’s premier competition when action gets underway this weekend. Just one of the four scheduled Jetts Fitness Barber Shield games will go ahead with North Gambier travelling to Malseed Park to face West Gambier. A late dose of winter weather which has lashed across the South East throughout the week has rendered the region’s turf wickets unplayable, with tomorrow’s solitary match taking place on the hard wicket of the main oval. South Gambier and Kalangadoo, Mil Lel and Kongorong, and East Gambier and Penola had all been tipped to play off in the opening round, however the trio of games will no be held under a one day format the following week. North and West made arrangements to play tomorrow rather than the following Saturday with several players hoping to attend a wedding on November 2. Hopes remain high that the Barber Shield will get underway as normal come the second round which is scheduled for November 23 and 30. North v West at Malseed Park WHILE the opening clash was originally intended for North’s Marist Park turf wicket, West will now have the honour of opening the season at home – albeit on a hard wicket. After narrowly missing the finals last season, North will be keen to get some runs on the board to ensure it is in with a chance come season’s end. But West come off the back of a storming victory last weekend against Penola in the one day match and will be full of confi - dence. Nick Martin and Peter Hawthorne have been in good early form with the bat for West and Ryan Hosking was solid with the ball against Penola in a highscoring affair. Again the two-day format is a completely different ball game and could well suit Hosking’s tight attack. Of course North are coming off that impressive victory over South last week so should carry as much confi dence to the game as West. J y u o t n i F o 625971
