SPORT NEWS TIPS sport@tbw.com.au BONUS $100 COLD HARD CASH WHEN YOU CONNECT ANY HANDSET TO ANY OPTUS PLAN OVER 24 MONTHS From page 32 Doing the rounds THREE-year-old greyhound Geisha Angel has seen a few trainers in her 29-start career with Ray Keating of Portland being the most recent – and the most successful. Owned by Keating’s trusty sidekick Callan Ward, Geisha Angel was still trying for her fi rst win when she jumped from box one in The Border Watch Stake (400m) last Friday. Having only her fifth start for Keating following three minor placings from her past four starts at Tara Raceway, Geisha Angel jumped straight to the front and never looked like losing when defeating coming winner Damonic by 2.5 lengths in 24.03 seconds. “Young Callan picked her up as a giveaway earlier this year,” the popular veteran trainer said. “However, she wasn’t doing a lot on the track with a previous trainer and he (Callan) was just about ready to give up on her. “He helps me out with the dogs and while I didn’t really want any more at the time I suggested he transfer Geisha Angel to our kennels and we would have a bit of a play around with her. “Anyway, she seems to have responded to our methods and while she’s certainly no champion she’s fi nally won a race.” The win also broke a run of outs for both owner and trainer with Keating’s last winner being with Madame Betsy back in May. Country Cup update LOCAL Country Cup representative Moorak Hope should be spot on for this Sunday night’s $5000 fi nal at Gawler following a top debut at that track last Sunday night. Terms and conditions apply. Available to approved customers only. See in stor details. ditions e to omers ore for Distance no trouble Trained at Compton by Tracie Price for Allan Holmes, Moorak Hope was slowly away from box two in a 531 metre event but handled herself well, running home strongly to fi nish second to short-priced favourite Power Merc. Price also had a big night in 400 metre events with Oenophiliac winning at $19 while Flaming Gold scored later in the night and Natural Moment ran a good third. Meanwhile, Arbour Elvis, Mount Gambier’s other Country Cup representative, will acclimatise himself with the Gawler track in a heat of the $37,000 Gold Cup tonight. However, Glencoe ownertrainer Barry Shepheard said even if Arbour Elvis was successful tonight he would still be required to take his place in the Country Cup fi nal and not the Gold Cup fi nal which also will be run this Sunday night.
