With only a few tickets left, the show is expected to thrill young and old in the audience with daring feats. Hazel Bock will clown around and perform juggling tricks, while the roving indigenous provocateur Mark Sheppard - dressed in a kangaroo suit - will sing and dance in the larrikin spirit Circus Oz has become famous for over the years. More juggling, clown- ing and some magic will come from tuba player Jez Davies and Ania Reynolds will show off her skills on musical instruments such as the saxophone. Hurling last year’ Circus Oz shows to new heights, tonight’ Cranked Up is a production honed to play hilariously fast and loose. Curtains will rise at 7.30pm. Performers will stay behind after the show to chat and shake hands with fans. Tickets are available by contacting the theatre on 8723 8741 or from countryarts.org.au. TOOLS OF THE TRADE: Hazel Bock will clown around with juggling acts tonight. Regional wine show takes on international fl avour JUDGING for the 2013 Limestone Coast Wine Show has begun in Coonawarra. A panel chaired by Peter Lehmann chief winemaker Andrew Wigan began the threeday process of examining nearly 400 entries yesterday at Wynns Coonawarra Estate. This year’s guest international judge, Fongyee Walker, has enjoyed a sneak preview of some of the region’s top drops since arriving last week. “I began with some spectacularly interesting tastings of shiraz and cabernet, really exploring the diversity of styles, followed by an impressive Langton wines tasting and a Wynns single vineyard tasting, so top class,” she said. The co-founder of independent Beijing wine consulting and education service Dragon Phoenix Fine Wine Consulting, Fongyee has had a comprehensive tour of the Limestone Coast’s various wine districts, including the “requisite photograph” at the Coonawarra siding and visits to Wrattonbully, Padthaway, Mount Benson and Robe. “It’s been lovely to get here a few days early and it has been a great introduction to the area - very enjoyable and I even like the cool weather,” she said. One of Australia’s most respected wine writers and judges, Jane Faulkner has also welcomed the opportunity to return to a region 2 - The Border W INTERNATIONAL FLAVOUR: Limestone Coast Wine Show international judge Fongyee Walker has begun tasting the best of the region at Coonawarra. she describes as “so welcoming, down-to-earth and a lot of fun”. “The best part of any regional show is being immersed in all things local,” she said. “There’s still the chance to talk to winemakers and growers about vintage conditions, the highs and lows, plus discuss all the important issues affecting and infl uencing their patch of land.” Ms Faulkner said she was keen to taste varieties that made the region famous, including shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay. “I am particularly interested in blends - both red and white and so-called alternative varieties - however I reckon the highlight will probably be the museum class,” she said. A record 42 gold, 77 silver and 178 bronze medals were awarded at last year’s Limestone Coast Wine Show and entrants will be hoping to top that fi gure during the 2013 event, with the winners set to be revealed at a trophy feast at the Naracoorte Town Hall on Thursday night hosted by the Wrattonbully Wine Region. Limestone Coast Grape and Wine Council chair Sue Bell thanked all exhibitors for presenting their wines for such high-level scrutiny. “This is the annual celebration of our hard work and unique climatic and geology attributes, the one time all the wine communities of all the regions gather,” she said. Members of the public will have the opportunity to sample the medal winners at a public tasting on Friday at Wynns Coonawarra Estate from 11.30am to 1.30pm, with the $15 admission fee including a results book. 630644 632282 609263
