JA T tr JACKSON TREVOR trevor@tbw.com.au THE air was fi lled with the roar of engines this week when the annual Aussie Muscle Car Run made its way through Mount Gambier, stopping at Lady Nelson Park. Now in its second year, the eight- day, 3000km South Australian run is held to raise funds through the Leukaemia Foundation for carer accommodation currently under construction in Adelaide, taking participants on a leisurely The run brings people from all walks of life together for the one cause, from Limestone Coast competitors to a Western Australian trucking company. And this year was even more special for one particular Mount Gambier team. The Entrepreneurial Bogans competed in the inaugural event last year as brothers Mick and Brad Mullan. This year Brad was present in spirit, with his ashes sitting proudly on the back seat of his beloved SS Torana. Tony purchased the car as a Fairmont and recently began the rebuilding process. “I bought the car in February from Tasmania and did a bit of work on it over the last few months,” he said. “I have always had a passion for older cars and I’ve always been a Ford man. “The car has PHONE FOR CONSULTATION 03 5382 3930 • 0418 351 444 performed well so far.” Tony said he decided to participate in the run after enquiring through another Penola-based team - Snow and Stuart Merrett. “I went and talked to the Merretts about the run and they suggested I join up,” he said. “It is a good opportunity to give back to a great cause. “So far we’ve raised over $5000, which has exceeded our expectations.” Co-driver Braeden was best man at Tony’s wedding, but has been living in Western Australia. He said it was a good excuse to return home and catch up with friends and family, with the added bonus of driving a classic muscle car around the state. “I’m a Holden boy, but I enjoy driving this Ford,” he said. “It goes good, it looks good and Tony has done a great job with it. “So far the run has been great, meeting new people and hearing all their stories.” 4 - The Border Watch, Wednesday, October 30, 2013 MEMORIES: Mick Mullan and Tom Stokker are participating in this year’s Aussie Muscle Car Run in memory of Mick’s Brother Brad, who lost his battle with cancer this month.
