Leukaemia Foundation fundraiser hits close to home TREVOR JACKSON TED and Leanne Pitman from Penola have a personal connection to the Aussie Muscle Car Run. Leanne was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2006 and has been on treatment ever since. The couple participated in last year’s event in one of Snow Merrett’s cars, a GTR Torana. This year they are taking a different approach, driving one of the support rigs following the vehicles around the state. And the Kenworth prime mover and trailer have been offered to the run by an unlikely donor. Northaul operate out of the north west of Western Australia, a long way from Adelaide. “The boys from Western Australia virtually sponsor us to go on this run,” Ted said. “They put the money up and provided the vehicle and they have looked after us very well.” Ted and Leanne met operators of the transport business on last year’s run. “We asked them last year why they would come over here and support a South Australian run,” Leanne said. “They just said they were doing well and simply wanted to help people.” Leanne said she was thankful for the work the Leukaemia Foundation did with research into cancer and building the accommodation in Adelaide to cater for country people. “This is very important to me,” she said. “What we’re doing is raising funds for the village. “If I get really sick and have to go to Adelaide, both Ted and I can stay there.” THE MAIN CORNER Girls Night In This Thursday 31st October, 2013 from 6.30pm – 9.30pm, the Main Corner is hosting a Girls Night In, raising money for Women’s Cancer research and support services.
