Choose Up at the Links Wednesday 9-hole daylight $11,990 DRIVE FROM AWAY White shows true colours Top qualifi ers eyeing ABS COMPETITORS took part in the Gambier Print sponsored October Monthly Medal at Blue Lake Golf Club on Saturday and it was Alan White who cleaned up as he carded a fi ne score of 93-29-64 to claim the overall prize. In A grade it was Colin Ferguson who led the way with a score of 76-7-69 to narrowly defeat big hitting Sean Sawyer who was one shot back on 79-9-70. B grade saw Tony Hughes once again record a win with an excellent score of 88-23-65 to edge out the unlucky Niki Collins on a countback who also carded a round of 85-20-65. In C grade it was life member Gavin Sparrow who returned to the winners’ circle with a score of 94-27-67 to easily account for Don Annand – three shots back on 94-24-70. Ball run down winners were Jay Ilsley, Adam Dunn, Doug Brown 70, David Adkins, David Johnston 71, Terry Smith, Tim Von Stanke, Wayne Dunford, Jim Ferrazola and Brenton Speck on 72. In the women’s division it was Trudy Herbert who led the way with a score of 111-37-74, followed by Helen Stratford in second place on 96-21-75. Third place was taken out by Lesley McPherson with a score of 111-34-77 on a countback. The pro shot on the par three fi fth hole was taken out by Tony Hughes who collected four balls for his nearest the pin. Tuesday competition PLAYERS who braved the midweek competition were treated to wet and windy conditions as numbers were low, but that didn’t stop the few who ventured out to be rewarded for their commitment. Nick Childs took out the competition with an excellent nett 70 in the adverse conditions followed by Tyson Ploenges with a nett 76. Friday 9-hole competition THE regular 9-hole competition continues to grow in numbers as 32 competitors took their place in the fi eld and it was club veteran David McKenzie who won with a nett 31. McKenzie was followed by Trevor Finnis with a nett 32 and in third place was head greenskeeper Ken Stevens carding a nett 33 on a countback. Winner of the putting competition was woman golfer Josie Ashby who returned with just 13 putts for her nine holes. Social club LAST Friday night the social club draw went off as Gary Stevens was present to win $50 so the jackpot this Friday will only be $50. The happy hours will be from 4.30pm till 6.30pm with the draw at approximately 6.15pm along with a light supper provided – it always promises to be a good night at the club. Proceeds from the social club are going to the development of the practice fairway which will be up and running in November this year. savings competition NIKI Collins was the winner of last week’s midweek 9-hole competition as he collected 10 beverages with 22 points on a countback which catapulted him to the lead in the player-of-the-month award, edging out Darren Turner on a countback, also on 22 points. Nick Childs fi nished third with 21, also on a countback. The winner of the pro shot was Chris Bowd who collected six balls for his nearest the pin on the par three fi fth hole. Player-of-the-month award: Niki Collins 8; Michael Millhouse, Zeick Dalton 7; Nick Childs, Mat Fenwick, Darren Turner 6. Sunday stableford IT was great to see so many out on Sunday for the stableford event and it was Steve Dwyer who cleaned up with a score of 38 points to defeat new member Brett Sutherland on a countback, also on 38, followed by Tim Bates who rounded out the placings with a score of 37 points. Open invitation NOVEMBER 9 will see the Blue Lake Golf Club host its 10th annual Wayne Scutter Memorial Invitational in which the club invites all golfers to take part in one of the club’s feature events on it’s calendar. Last year’s winner Setio Shanahan hopefully will be back to defend his title as he shot 72 off the stick to claim the major prize of a $200 voucher. Local John Young also will be back to defend the prize he won last year as he took put the best overall nett with a score of 64 to win a golf bag. Over $1000 worth of prizes will be up for grabs including prizes for best off the stick for A grade, B grade, C grade, veterans and women and an overall prize for the best nett score for the day along while each competitor who breaks the CCR for the day will receive a sleeve of golf balls. Those wishing to book a time slot can do so by ringing the club on 8725 6198 or place their name on the sheet provided in the sprig bar. Presentation night FOLLOWING the Wayne Scutter event will be the Blue Lake Golf Club’s presentation evening which promises to be a great night. Meals will be available on the night and those wishing to book can do so by calling the club and making their booking. The best two round scores were used, seeing women’s captain Lyn Watson named the Division 1 top qualifi er with 193 (94, 99). Watson will now move into the quarter fi nals where she will defend her 2012 title. Julie Gamble was the Division 2 top qualifi er with 206 (98, 108), and is also defending her 2012 title. The leading eight players in each grade will now advance to knockout matchplay quarter fi nals which will be held today. Today’s quarter final draw includes: Division 1 (fi ve minute intervals from 8.30am): Lyn Watson 1st v Marlene Lingham 8th; Helen Stratford 2nd v Bev Pascoe 7th; Dianne Perryman 3rd v Josie Ashby 6th; Rose Case 4th v Lynda Nannings 5th. Division 2 (fi ve minute intervals from 8.50am): Julie Gamble 1st v Joan McQuade 8th; Janine Dunn 2nd v Carlene Laslett 7th; Lyn Gill 3rd v Anne Colbert 6th; Helen Medhurst 4th v Judy Jericho. Milder weather greeted the players for last week’s competition and Division 2’s Janine Dunn returned a nett 69 to claim the top score of the day. In Division 1 it was a case of countbacks to decide a winner with handicapper Dianne Perryman eventually taking the trophy from captain Bev Pascoe and Helen Stratford, all carding nett 77. Knowles wins haul of trophies at Attamurra MOUNT Gambier Golf Club’s women held their annual general meeting last week with new offi ce bearers elected for the next 12 months, while presentations were made to winners for recent events and competitions. Sandi Elliott will hold the role of president for the 2013/14 period, with Heather Teakle named vicepresident. Marie Douglas will captain the women with Lyn Hudson as vicecaptain. Karen Forster is the secretary and treasurer, while the committee comprises Di O’Donnell, Jennifer Van Rijthoven, Linley Gray, Heather Hadnum, Yvonne Shirley and Andrea Pegler.
