LIMESTONE COASTalive Show fun and excitement hits Penola THIS weekend’s Penola show will be the fi rst to run over three days as the program of entertainment and competition expands. Gates open at 4pm on Friday ahead of the return of the Young Farmer’s Challenge at 7pm, which will feature teams competing in farming-related activities. Show society representative Kristen Bence said the free competition encouraged young people over the age of 18 to become involved in the show. Friday night will also feature a fi re eating and twirling act and fi reworks. The key show day then begins at 7am on Saturday with a packed schedule. The popular sheaf tossing state championships will make a comeback. Meanwhile, making a fi rst-time appearance at the Penola show will be snake catcher David Miles, who will conduct a display and presentations showcasing various snake species. An animal nursery will also feature some of Australia’s native wildlife. Competitions will include a best carved pumpkin contest, Lego building, decorated hat and the prestigious $1000 St Mary’s grand champion rose prize. Penola PA and H Society president Neil Copping said the popular photography section would be extended. “There were so many entries last EXCITEMENT: Fireworks are a highlight of Penola’s show. growing horse events program. Mr Copping said the show society prided itself on presenting a familyfriendly traditional country show. “We want our show to be affordable, interactive and familyfriendly,” he said. “Each year we aim to provide plenty of entertainment for children and this year there will be no parking fees.” Programs are available from the Penola Visitor Information Centre or Penola and Coonawarra businesses.
