Confi dential written nominations are invited from the community for the city’s citizen, young citizen and community event of the year. The awards will be presented at Mount Gambier’s Australia Day celebrations on Sunday, January 26. “This is your chance to nominate someone who makes a real difference in your community and give them the opportunity to be rewarded and recognised for their important contribution,” Mr Perryman said. He said the awards would provide a focus for the 2014 Australia Day celebrations. Confi dential nominations in writing can be lodged until 5pm on November 15 and should be addressed to Mayor Steve Perryman, Australia Day Awards 2014, PO Box 56, Mount Gambier, 5290. Nomination forms and guidelines are available from the City of Mount Gambier civic centre at 10 Watson Terrace, by calling 8721 2555 or online at www.mountgambier.sa.gov. au. “They must be in good serviceable condition according to the manufacturer’s instructions and suitable for the activities you have in mind. “It is also critically important when choosing a device for young children that it is correctly fi tted and has a crutch strap to prevent the child from slipping out. “If you can’t provide a suitably-sized flotation device, then toddlers under one year of age shouldn’t go out on the water.” He also urged people to ensure they had a copy of the new South Australian Recreational Boating Safety handbook for the latest information and tips for being safe on the water this summer. A full version of the handbook can be downloaded at www.sa.gov.au/ boatingmarine and printed copies are available at Service SA customer service centres and from transport safety compliance offi cers.
