NEWS TIPS newsroom@tbw.com.au NEWS 5 Third murder suspect held Mount Gambier man remains in custody HO PH HOLMES PHIL phil@tbw.com.au hil@ THE third man linked to the disappearance of missing Mount Gambier man Gordon Tearonui Hamm remains in custody after appearing at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday. Tai Thorp, 21, of Mount Gambier, was extradited to Victoria last week after being charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and being an accessory to murder. Investigations have ramped up in the past week, with a burnt-out four-wheel-drive found in bushland 15km north of Nelson. The vehicle is believed to be connected with the abduction and suspected murder of Mr Hamm, but Victoria’s homicide squad told The Border Watch nothing had been found yet. On July 17, Mr Hamm was abducted from Nelson when two cars boxed the car he was travelling in on a bridge. He was forced from the silver Toyota Corolla he was travelling in, which was driven by a female friend. Thorp will again face the Melbourne Magistrates Court on December 2 and will be remanded in custody in the meantime. The petition has been launched this week by Liberal candidate for Mount Gambier Troy Bell, who says the new Federal Government in Canberra means a renewed community push for a magnetic resonance imaging licence is timely. “This is about standing up for the people of Mount Gambier,” Mr Bell said. “This petition is an important step towards ensuring the new Federal Government hears our plea, all while giving local residents ownership of the issue.” Orthopaedic surgeon Barney McCusker spoke out in yesterday’s edition of The Border Watch, stat- ing an MRI licence for the region was long overdue. Mr Bell said people should no longer be burdened with the 10-hour return trip to Adelaide for an MRI scan. “As the state’s biggest regional centre, Mount Gambier deserves its own MRI licence to help ensure better health outcomes for local residents and the broader South East,” he said. “I will be knocking on doors throughout the electorate seeking signatures for this petition before it is presented to Federal Parliament in Canberra in the new year.” Mr Pasin commended the new petition and encouraged the entire Mount Gambier community to get behind the campaign. “Troy Bell cares about the future of Mount Gambier and is clearly willing to fight to get a better deal for local residents,” Mr Pasin said. & Wear Super acrylic.
