Picture: PHIL HOLMES Foundation releases annual report Directors highlight achievements at public meeting in Mount Gambier THE Stand Like Stone Foundation will host its annual general meeting on Wednesday at Caffe Belgiorno’s Tapas Bar. “We invite interested members of the community to join us at our annual general meeting, where we will present our achievements for the year and release the 2013 annual report,” chairman Sue Charlton said. “The year was very productive for the foundation and a highlight was the most successful Swinging with the Stars yet.” She said three additional sub funds had also been established over the year. The SARWG Mount Gambier Educational Scholarship has been established to benefi t women in the pursuit of their educational goals, while the Cornerstone Educational Scholarship will benefi t a student from the greater Bordertown area and the Steven Noble Memorial Sub Fund has been established to benefit the communities of Allendale East, Kongorong and Port MacDonnell. “We have a renewed focus on getting out into the Limestone Coast community to meet donors and sponsors and to increase awareness of how Stand Like Stone is making a positive difference to our communities both now and into the future,” Ms Charlton said. Immediately following the meeting, attendees will have the opportunity to network and discuss the work of Stand Like Stone with directors. The Stand Like Stone Foundation is an independent, charitable organisation, which raises funds from a wide range of donors to create a corpus, which is held in perpetuity for the benefi t of the Limestone Coast. Income earned from the corpus is then distributed back to the community in the form of educational scholarships and grants for charitable projects to meet various needs. “We are proud to announce that the corpus of Stand Like Stone now stands at $919,546 and since its inception, Stand Like Stone has distributed more than half a million dollars to the communities of the Limestone Coast,” Ms Charlton said. Anyone unable to attend the meeting can receive a copy of the annual report by contacting 8721 0480 or emailing info@standlikestone.com.au. A student has told police that around lunchtime on Wednesday she was on the oval when a red van stopped nearby and the driver beckoned her over to his vehicle. It is alleged the driver, a man with a bushy beard, directly threatened her and then drove off. He did not get out of the van or ask the student to go with him. There is no further description of the vehicle or the driver. Police have investigated and rejected any link to local workers in the area. If anyone has information about the incident, they are urged to immediately contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or call local police.
