Debut showring success Corriedale ram takes out supreme champion honour THE high quality of the region’s livestock breeders was on show at the weekend when top specimens competed across various classes at the Mount Gambier Spring Show. The tightly fought supreme champion ram award was presented to Wye Corriedale Stud for one of its prime entries. Parading in the Mount Gambier Show for the fi rst time, the ram took out champion Corriedale ram before going up against tough competition in the supreme event. Owners Jan and Tony Hunt were thrilled their ram was judged so highly at the show. “We will use him in the stud now,” Ms Hunt said. “He’s a true Corriedale and has an excellent fl eece. “He’s very structurally correct and has a good sire’s outlook.” The stud also received reserve champion ram, champion and reserve champion ewe accolades in the Corriedale section. But the supreme champion ewe sash was taken out by a Poll Dorset. Naracoorte’s Leenala Poll Dorset Stud owner Alan Schinckel was pleased to see his ewe take out supreme champion in the face of tough competition. “We’re quite chuffed, he said. “I didn’t see it coming because she was up against a pretty good-looking Corriedale ewe. “We thought the Corriedale was too good, but the judges thought otherwise.” The stud also took out champion ram in the Poll Dorset section.
