SOUTH AUSTRALIA’S LARGEST REGIONAL NEWSPAPER A TOTAL of 46 junior riders competed in the Sturt Holdfast Marion Cycling Cub (SHMCC) Junior Track Carnival on Saturday, October 26 at the Adelaide Superdome. With riders coming from all over the state including the South East, Whyalla and the Riverland the Mount Gambier Cycling Club (MGCC) riders had plenty of competition. The MGCC had five talented junior representatives compete with all riders making their mark on the track. The club’s highlight of the carnival saw youngster Tess Wight take out the prestigious Port Adelaide Cycling Club Pud Brooks Wheelrace after she narrowly won the handicapped feature race with a brave ride off limit. Jack Opperman also tasted success by powering away from a strong fi eld to take out the SHMCC under 13 keirin feature race. Other success stories included the fast improving Amy Wight, managing a credible fourth in the D grade scratch race, while Luke Wight fi nished third in the hotly contested under 15 men keirin and Jack Patzel performed well to claim third place in the SHMCC B grade points race championship. Good scores recorded by archers THE recent switch to daylight saving heralds the return of the longer duration outdoor archery rounds for the Blue Lake Archers. During the shorter months rounds that require up to 90 arrows are used, for the duration of daylight saving in the warmer months rounds requiring 120 and 144 arrows are interspersed with the occasional shorter rounds. The fi rst 120 arrow round was played out with a minimal number in mediocre conditions but good scores were still recorded with Phil Tremelling carding an all gold range at the opening distance of 60 metres and Garry Jacques posting a new personal best. Both were outdone in the fi nal result by Dewayne Holland, competing in his fi rst attempt at a round of greater than 90 arrows. The Friday night Indoor archery FITA 18 round bore witness to an epic match with Ben Kilsby out pointing Holland in the off the bow scores and claiming the adjusted tally win, both were margins of a solitary point. Last Sunday the 90 arrow FITA 900 outdoor round found the group revelling in near perfect conditions. Brett Tonkin led way with a personal best to claim his fi rst win, while Tonkin had to fend off a solid challenge from Holland who also exceeded his previous best mark. Indoor archery returns tonight at St Martins College Hall commencing at 7.30pm, while outdoor archery continues at Corriedale Park this weekend on Wireless Roadd West at 12.30pm. All welcome.
