With works at the site now gathering momentum and contractors undertaking the last of the asbestos removal, the demolition of the old hospital site is earmarked to begin on Friday, November 18. It will be the first time residents will see the high-reach excavator - which is the largest in Australia - in full swing at the site by head contractor McMahon Services. AXE FALLS: Demolition of the former chapel at the old hospital site is well underway. Councillor Des Mutton - who is the presiding member of the old hospital redevelopment subcommittee - said it appeared the works at the site were on track, with demolition of the school of nursing the latest chapter in the demolition project. “I am happy with the progress, it is all going well,” Cr Mutton said. “Once the asbestos removal is fi nalised, the real action will get underway with the demolition of the main building.” All structures will be demolished at the site, apart from an old hospital sign and the expansive laundry building. Both of these structures will be extensively refurbished on the site and will be the only remnants remaining of its rich medical history.
