Former Mount Gambier women Amy Roberts and Casey Norman will swap their usual North Melbourne backdrop for the Jubilee Highway West premises, where they will serve up a range of Middle Eastern-inspired cuisine from their purpose-built food trailer. Aptly dubbed Trailer Made, business has boomed for the duo since launching in August and the Mount Gambier public had an opportunity to sample the spring menu over the past two nights ahead of the private launch this evening. Front of trailer manager Ms Roberts - the daughter of OGR director Peter - said she was excited to bring the commercial kitchen on wheels to Mount Gambier. “The food trailer scene in Melbourne is growing rapidly,” Ms Roberts said. “I think we got in at a good time. “A lot of other businesses produce Mexican food or burgers, but we don’t really try and define our menu as being one certain style because The menu I have created is a real illustration of the skills I have learnt over the past 12 years, a collaboration of my favourite foods paying respect to the raw ingredients, natural fl avours and local produce Casey is so talented.” Ms Norman started her journey towards becoming a chef as an apprentice at Sorrentos before making the move to Melbourne, where she has honed her craft. “The menu I have created is a real illustration of the PROTECTION & “Your locally owned company” Display centre: 33 Crouch St South, Mt Gambier Phone 8725 0733 www.mountglass.com.au Mount Glass & Glazing has quality security doors and screens in a style to suit your home without compromising on security ss & Glazing ss & Glazing 2 - The Border Watch, Wednesday, November 6, 2013 skills I have learnt over the past 12 years, a collaboration of my favourite foods paying respect to the raw ingredients, natural flavours and local produce,” Ms Norman said. Despite both being raised in Mount Gambier, it was not until the pair moved to Melbourne they first met. Casey Norman Roberts said. After becoming housemates, Ms Roberts combined her love of hospitality and management with Ms Norman’s passion as a chef to branch out into the food industry. “We used to run a catering business which was doing “I think we always knew who one another was and we had similar friendship groups, but we never actually met,” Ms quite well, but we were still doing our other jobs at the same time,” Ms Roberts said. “We just didn’t really love it like we do with this.” Back home on the streets of Brunswick East or among other traders at the South Melbourne markets, the pair create an atmosphere around their pride and joy by setting up outdoor furniture and providing music. “One of our friends operates a Crème Brulee truck which sets up near us and I have been speaking to a girl who sells popsicles off a tricycle,” Ms Roberts said, sharing her passion to continue the expansion of the street trading scene. While their visit to the region has been brief, the pair have not ruled out returning with their new summer menu in the coming months. “We will both be coming home for Christmas and it’s not hard to just hook up the trailer and come down, so we shall see,” Ms Roberts said.
