6 NEWS Burn-off out of control A CONTROLLED burn near Caroline broke containment lines yesterday. The CFS warned the fi re caused smoke to be visible in the Mount Gambier, Donovans and Nelson areas, but did not threaten surrounding townships, although people with cardiac conditions were advised to stay indoors while residents were told to close doors and windows. This will help reduce the possibility of supply interruptions, and ensure the safety of the public and the network. Flights are scheduled from 7am to 5pm, November to December, along all major transmission lines across the state. BORDERTOWN KEITH NARACOORTE PENOLA MOUNT GAMBIER MILLICENT SURROUNDING AREAS IN THE LOWER SOUTH EAST If you have any queries about the inspections, please contact: DAVID MANLEY 1800 243 853 electranet.com.au THE Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Mount Gambier branch will host its inaugural charity golf day at the Mount Gambier Golf Club Attamurra on Sunday. Teams of four men, women or mixed, and including at least one experienced golfer, will take to the greens for a shotgun start at 10.30am. Competing in a four ball ambrose style event, the $20 entry fee per person includes a continuous barbecue and afternoon tea. Anyone is welcome to gear up and spend their Sunday hitting a ball around the golf course to raise funds to grant memorable wishes to sick children. Mount Gambier branch volunteer Dick Hamson said the fundraiser was likely to be a fun event. “I’ve been told that golf days are usually rather popular and we’re aiming for a laid-back enjoyable day,” he said. “One of our volunteers will drive a drinks buggy throughout the day offering people refreshments on the course. “I think everyone will have a ball and every penny we raise gets us a step closer to granting a wish to a sick child.” Mr Hamson said it was important for the community to get behind events like this weekend’s fundraiser so the Make-A-Wish Foundation could continue its life-changing work. “People need to understand that without the generous support of the community we wouldn’t have the money to grant wishes,” he said. “It’s a great feeling being part of granting a sick child a wish. “It’s all about putting a smile on the face of a critically ill child.” A raffl e featuring the grand prize of a meal for two at Commodore on the Park, via limousine, will be drawn on the day. To register a team contact the Mount Gambier Golf Club on 8725 7739 or Chris Driscoll on 8724 9679. To become a volunteer with the Make-A-Wish Foundation contact Mr Hamson on 0488 082 956. Chief executive Adrian Hatch said ForestrySA’s annual training program was a crucial step in ensuring the organisation was prepared for the threat of bushfi re. “ForestrySA, in conjunction with the CFS and other agencies, is committed to fi re protection,” Mr Hatch said. “Preparation is key - we must be ready to protect our assets and the local community when fire strikes.” Interest rates held THE Reserve Bank of Australia kept interest rates on hold at 2.5pc yesterday for the third consecutive month following the August rate cut that saw rates reduced to a 53-year low. The RBA decision comes as the National Farmers’ Federation released its Agribusiness Loan Monitor for October, which showed all lenders mirrored the RBA’s decision to keep rates on hold after all dropping rates by 0.25 basis points from August to September. NFF president Duncan Fraser said it was positive and rare to see that all lenders had passed on the RBA’s August rate cut in full. Free 625943
