46 GREYHOUND RACING OntheLure with DAVID LEWIS e NINE mates – all employed in the electrical industry – are set to become involved in greyhound racing at Tara Raceway. The newly formed syndicate is managed by Geoff Ward and includes Chris Klaassens, Wayne Rowley, Greg Neumann, Bob Stafford, Lynton Everett, Dave Stehbens, Neil Ferguson and Russell Coleman. They recently purchased a reasonably priced and performed greyhound, Piper’s Pick which is ready to race and will be trained by Barry Shepheard at Glencoe. Piper’s Pick, which is 2½ years old, is by Aston Trivett out of Freestone which won fi ve races on Victorian provincial tracks. The only one in the litter, Piper’s Pick has raced on 25 occasions for two wins and seven minor placings. He was a short-course winner over 390 metres at Ballarat last month although in April he was successful over the 516 metre journey at Dubbo in New South Wales. Ward said this week the brindle and white 33kg dog would be racing in the name of the Chowilla Racing Syndicate. “Some months ago we were all on a camping trip at the Chowilla Game Reserve in the Riverland,” he said. “We were sitting around the campfire one night and after a few beers somehow the conversation turned to racing a greyhound although none of us had previously been involved in the sport. “One thing led to another and six months later we now own a greyhound. “The majority of the syndicate lives in the district and we’re really looking forward to getting out to the track to cheer on Piper’s Pick.” The Chowilla Racing Syndicate is the third syndicate to be formed this year to race greyhounds at VISIT US ONLINE borderwatch.com.au New syndicate hoping for fl ying sparks that have met their marks at other tracks,” he said. “Don’t get me wrong, races are hard to win anywhere, but reasonably priced performed dogs that are placed correctly have a great record locally. “The syndicate greyhounds, when racing, have been terrifi c for the club this year because they’ve boosted attendances and added considerably to on-course atmosphere.” Hoping for another cup MOUNT Gambier’s Country Cup winner Moorak Hope is on the cups trail again and will contest a heat of the Strathalbyn Cup on Sunday night. Although the brindle bitch has drawn awkwardly in box four in the first of four 536 metre heats, her task has been made a little easier with box fi ve being vacant. The last time the Tracie Price trained Moorak Hope raced on the tricky southern circuit was 13 months ago over the 416 metre journey when she was having her fi rst race start. The Compton-based trainer also has Moorak Hope’s litter sister, Loveless Moment, in the second cup heat. She’s not that well drawn either in box three although the daughter of Bond and Loveless Girl has performed well at Strathalbyn in the past. THE RIGHT PICK: Piper’s Pick is the inaugural purchase for the newly formed Chowilla Racing Syndicate and will race at Tara Raceway this Sunday. the Lake Terrace East complex. Our Houdini, also trained by Shepheard, was a reasonablypriced purchase after trialling at Ballarat. Raced by the Barry Maney Group Syndicate, Our Houdini commenced racing in April and has had 22 starts for four wins and four minor placings. The West Gambier Cricketers Syndicate took a different line and purchased a pup which later went on to race as Malseed Magic. Trained at Glenroy by Richard Clayfi eld, Malseed Magic, which kicked off her career in June, has raced 18 times for two wins and seven minor placings. Shepheard, who is also the secretary/treasurer of the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club, said syndication was an easy and affordable way to become involved in greyhound racing. “Tara Raceway is turning out to be a great place for greyhounds Tara Raceway, Mount Gambier Race 1 *First 4* 1–7564 STAR GLORY MUFFIN 2–7 3–77 4– 5– PIN UP BOY 6–5354 VIKING WHIRL Ivor Dowdell Richard Clayfi eld David Fennell BULLBAR KNIGHT Anthony Harding BETTY’S MOMENT Tracie Price 7–56 WARUNDA MAGIC Kevin Mugavin 8–3233 LANA KANE 9–668 IRON SHEN 10–5666 DAENERYS David Peckham Raymond Keating Bernard Rogers Bernard Rogers 23.78 24.29 24.44 24.12 SELECTIONS: Warunda Magic, Lana Kane, Betty’s Moment, Viking Whirl Race 2 *First 4* 1–423 SMASH OSTI 2–645 REMONSTRATE 3– 4–56 LADY WILKES 5–4742 ALL AT SEA 6–85 MAGIC TWIST 7–8367 DOMAIN ROAD 8–8588 BULLBAR GIN 9–5666 DAENERYS 10–88 STAR ZIPPY Michael Niele Raymond Keating NORMA’S MOMENT Tracie Price David Fennell Richard Clayfi eld Josephine Virgo Kevin Jakobi Anthony Harding Bernard Rogers Ivor Dowdell SELECTIONS: Smash Osti, Remonstrate, All At Sea, Lady Wilkes Race 3 *First 4* 1– 4–6 12.42pm THE BORDER WATCH OPEN MAIDEN STAKE $545, $160, $80, 512m Best time BENARA MAY Tracie Price 2–3347 EUCHRE QUEEN David Fennell 3–4354 SHAKEIA BLAZE GYPSY MOON William Wilson Richard Clayfi eld 30.63 31.12 46 - The Border Watch, Friday, November 8, 2013 24.05 24.54 24.34 24.66 23.87 24.12 25.09 12.27pm GAMBIER VETS OPEN MAIDEN STAKE $545, $160, $80, 400m Best time 12.07pm METAL WORX OPEN MAIDEN STAKE $545, $160, $80, 400m Best time 23.95 24.80 Offi cial box draw for Mount Gambier (TAB) greyhound meeting to be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 Race 6 5–465 GEORGIA’S OSTI 6–8522 FAWN DAWN 7– 8–2623 DAMONIC Michael Niele David Fennell BENARA COSMIC Tracie Price 9–8578 DOTHRAKY DEMON Bernard Rogers 10–5776 WINTER RISE Darren Henderson 31.36 31.63 Benjamin Hughes 31.45 SELECTIONS: Damonic, Fawn Dawn, Euchre Queen, Benara May Race 4 THE SOUTH EASTERN HOTEL STAKE $545, $160, $80, 512m, Grade 6 *First 4* 1–6385 POINT BOO 2–7538 BOB WILKES 3–7536 SHANTYTOWN QUEEN Brian Gordon 4–4144 MENARI ROBIN 5–7755 BENT FENDER Brian Weis 7–8557 SNOWSTREAM LASS Brian Gordon 8–8874 JACK WILKES 6–2342 GALACTIC IMPACT Robert Chuck David Fennell Best time Jesse Henderson 30.99 David Fennell Stephen I.
