28 SPORT BONUS $100 COLD HARD CASH Sharks put torch to Suns WHEN YOU CONNECT ANY HANDSET TO ANY OPTUS PLAN OVER 24 MONTHS THE Mount Gambier Touch Association’s match-of-the-round between ladder leaders, Suns and Henley Sharks was almost over as quickly as it began. Sharks put Suns to the torch with a blistering opening burst which saw it run in four unanswered tries in the fi rst 10 minutes. Sharks continually hammered Suns’ central defence and were rewarded with overlaps out wide. Brock Egan and Audine Bryant found themselves on the end of the good work to each score twice. Suns’ attempt to hit back with tries to Emily Pietsch and Matt Hensel were in vain as Sharks went to the half time break as 6-2 leaders. Suns seemed be rejuvenated in the second half and a tense arm wrestle ensued. Sharks struggled to penetrate an improved Suns defence and with Nick Moretti and Anthony Kilsby scoring their confi dence was on the up. A trademark Meg Gazzard diving touchdown and a nice fi nish from Joe Liddle were enough to see Sharks comfortably home in the end with an 8-4 win. In other games, Hornets Red notched up its fi rst win of the season with a hard fought 4-3 win over MC Hammers with a last gasp touchdown from Sam Auld. Hamish Medhurst proved his consistency, crossing the line twice for Hornets. The pacy Marcus Devereux was a standout for Hammers with two tries. Tiki Roos matched up against sister team, Tiki Blues. The Roos were in no mood for niceties though as they ran in 17 touchdowns to two. The bulk of the scoring coming from Tristan Guess and Matt Pilven with six and four respectively. Lauren Ramsey and Luke Johnston were the scorers for the Blues. In the B/C grade pool, MT Blacks and TWC Titans continued to dominate their opponents. MT Blacks recorded a 7-1 over a depleted Hornets Gold line-up. A solid team effort from the Blacks saw them have seven individual try scorers. Titans also recorded a comfortable 8-2 against Vestas Vikings 2. Better players for the game included Will Lewis (Titans) and David Coombe and Cathy Ashby for the Vikings. Bored Stiff must have more enthusiastic than normal as they managed to record a 7-4 victory over the Try Hards. Jero Mansell and Brenton Hodge crossed the line twice for Bored Stiff while Amanda O’Shaughnessy continued her good form this season for Try Hards. Results – A grade: Henley Sharks 8 d Suns 4.
