Community service supervisor Mick Neill said the unique campaign provided an opportunity for offenders who could not assist with manual work in pine forests to build toys, learning skills while contributing to the community. Each year the team provides handmade gifts to charities including the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul and ac.care. “Most people in the community services situation are usually disadvantaged,” Mr Neill said. “We see the need to do something towards the community to give back to other disadvantaged people.” He said a lot of effort and workmanship went into the quality toys, which were made by people undertaking community service.
