Hosted by the East Gambier Sportsmen’s Club and conducted under the banner of the Woodall Rodeo Promotions, the event has grown in stature in a short space of time. An estimated crowd of just over 1700 paid $23,000 at the McDonald Park gates last Saturday and witnessed some top class rodeo action. Bathed in glorious sunshine, the twilight rodeo had a little bit of everything from bull rides to bronco riders, women’s barrel racing and open bareback. The program also included motocross events for fans of a different sort of horsepower. The feature event on the program, the open bull ride produced unlimited highlights but it was no surprise to see Warren Coatman take the overall prize. Coatman is the current Victorian King of the High Country and one of the best rodeo performers on the national circuit. Coatman – from Nar Nar Goon in Victoria – earnt enough points on Saturday to win the open bull ride title from Cody Teece and Rohan Markham.
