The Border Watch : January 22nd 2014
4| tvwatch The Border Watch Wednesday, January 22, 2014 ranging from Scandinavian heavymetal enthusiasts to Spanish people celebrating their own funerals while they’re still alive. “I had to keep pinching myself that this my dream job, even when I was waking up in teepees or other bizarre forms of accommodation after two hours of sleep,” McMullen said. “It’s fantastic doing glitzy stuff like The Voice but I think ultimately it’s stories from Outsiders I’ll be telling my grandkids 50 years from now.” Darren McMullen might be best-known for hosting hit talent series The V i S y l T w n B t s a s b t oice, but Guy Davis learns travelling the world for his latest series, Darren McMullen’s Outsiders, is much more up his alley. Living outside the box ‘N othing is more boring to me than beige,” said Darren McMullen, the charmingly cheeky TV presenter best known for hosting WIN’s successful talent quest The Voice. So when he got the opportunity to realise his longheld ambition of developing and presenting a travel program, McMullen clearly wasn’t going to drop in on the same old spots and interact with the same old familiar faces. We have a great team of researchers and journalists who worked with different outlets for many years and we had them sourcing the best stories. But once you find these great stories, you have to convince them to let a guy like me into their closed ranks and open up about their lives. I didn’t have much of a problem with that, although there were a few groups who’d had problems with the press in the past because of their beliefs. They were a bit harder to infiltrate, I guess, but most people soon realised that I wasn’t a journalist and I wasn’t there to throw them under a bus or laugh at them because they believe in aliens or time travel. I wasn’t there to judge them at all; I was there to experience their way of life w c t t I b f u k t i c t a f a F s o I a b n V 1 t 634537 LIMITED STOCK IN STORE NOW!
