38 GREYHOUND RACING OntheLure with DAVID LEWIS WITH two winners each for local greyhound trainers Richard Clayfield, Tracie Price and David Peckham, success for littermates Flaming Gold and Damonic, and Doubles the dog chipping in for good measure, it was a case of doubles all round at Tara Raceway on Sunday afternoon. Clayfield, of Glenroy, continued his good run this year when All At Sea led all the way from box two to defeat Dee Tee in the Gambier Vets Stake over 400 metres. By Lonesome Cry out of On Shore, All At Sea has now won three races for Clayfield who took over the brindle bitch for Yambuk owner Tom Sinnott last October. Dee Tee, a daughter of former Tara Raceway record holder Mantra Miss, was looking to maintain her unbeaten record at the track for Bushfield owner-trainer Gary Lane. However, the fawn and white bitch found trouble in the run and did well to push All At Sea to a head in a time of 23.49 seconds. Clayfield then made it a race-to-race double when Slipper’s Might was successful from box eight in the Allestree Holiday Units Stake (400m). Following a handy effort at Horsham last Tuesday night, the black son of Lochinvar Marlow and Slipper’s Tonic chased West On Ziggy until well into the home straight before finishing too strongly to score by a half length in 23.68 seconds. And this was a double that certainly lacked nothing when it came to pedigree and family success. All At Sea is a litter sister to Dub Me In which only last week established a 512 metre track record of 29.62 seconds at Tara Raceway. Later on Sunday, another member of the litter, Wait Til Dark, was successful at Sandown Park in Victoria over the 515 metre journey in 29.97 seconds. Slipper’s Might’s litter brother, Ernie Bung Arrow, was recently named the SA Greyhound of the Year on the back of some outstanding performances last year which saw him win more than $160,000 in prizemoney. Chili Diva, owned by a group of Geelong footballers, ANOTHER WIN: Damonic made it two wins in success at Tara Raceway when successful on Sunday. He is pictured with (from left) Elisha Antunov, Jesse Henderson (owner), Brendan Bunworth (trainer) and Kayla Mitchell. followed on from the Cats’ success last Thursday night with a win of her own in the South Eastern Hotel Stake (400m). By Bit Chili out of Cosmic Diva, a winner of 24 races and $54,000 in prizemoney, Chili Diva is trained at Allendale East by David Peckham for Tom Hawkins, Steve Motlop, Mitch Duncan, Billy Smedts, Joel Selwood, Jonathan Simpkin, Taylor Hunt and Dawson Simpson. The white and black bitch never looked in any danger of defeat from box one when defeating Smiley Gordon’s Bruised Banana by 3.5 lengths in 23.53 seconds. And it’s been a case of making up for lost time with Bit Chili now having won two races this month at Tara Raceway. “I actually picked her up last September so it’s taken a while for her to open her win- MOUNT Gambier Greyhound Racing Club results from Sunday, March 23, 2014: Race 1, Metal Worx Open Maiden Stake, 512m: Gogetta 1; Michael Allan 2; Hickleton 3. A brilliant sub-30 second winner at Tara Raceway in January, the daughter of Superman and Irish Fantasy had been struggling to regain winning form since then. But in a tough final race, Irish Angel took the lead out of the first turn and from then on was never headed when scoring by four lengths in a best of day 30.00 seconds. $10.30. Exacta: $20.10. The pair raced in the same event last week at Sandown Park and while Flaming Gold ran a cheeky race to finish third, Benara Cosmic failed to travel well before finishing down the line. On Sunday, Flaming Gold quickly found the front from box five in the Produce Store Mixed Stake (512m) and managed to hold off In This Way in a desperately close finish to win by a nose in 30.15 seconds for owner Annalise Van Der Laan. And in doing so, he brought up a double for the Knocka Norris x Flaminia Bale litter VISIT US ONLINE borderwatch.com.au Doubles all round at Tara Raceway with Flaming Gold having been successful earlier in the day. Only fairly away from box one, the black dog found himself midfield down the back straight before putting in his customary big strides, then splitting the leaders turning for home and finishing full of running to score by three-quarters of a length over Unleash Nitro in a personal best 30.19 seconds. Owned in Mount Gambier by young Jesse Henderson, Damonic, which has now won three races, is trained at Casterton by Brendan Bunworth who is keen to move the dog around. “That was a good hitout today,” Bunworth said. “He should now be spot on for Ballarat on Wednesday night when he’ll be running over 545 metres.” Appropriately named winner AND on a day of doubles, winners weren’t any more appropriately named than that of Doubles. Trained by David Williams, the fawn dog led all the way in the Bartholomew Mixed Stake (400m), holding out Leroy Kahn and Flame Flight in what was a busy finish. Now in the veteran class, Doubles is a former NSW chaser which was purchased for next to nothing during the middle of last year. The son of Pure Octane and Zoom Around has now won six races since relocating to Mount Gambier. “Look, we’ve had a bit of fun with him,” Williams said. “He’s now past his best but as he showed today if he finds the right race and things fall into place then he’s still more than competitive.” Keep an eye on . . . LEROY KAHN (trainer: Tracie Price). Hasn’t won since last November but turned in a better effort when going down by threequarters of a length to Doubles. He was well back early before being checked and then ran home well. MICHAEL ALLAN (trainer Allan Holmes). Making steady progress and ran a forward race when finishing second to Gogetta in the Metal Worx Open Maiden (512m). Shouldn’t be long before he opens his winning account.
