Mr Fox said it was one of the more signifi cant projects the business has received. Mr Fox said the main aim of the business was to stay competitive. “You have got to be on your game and the key for us is that we quote everyone on an equal basis,” he said. “To be competitive you need to keep a good price structure and businesses shouldn’t fl uctuate prices based on the type of customer.” He said one of the main challenges facing the business was the competition from larger cities. “They try to come and take as much business away from the local region as possible and I am pleased to say that most businesses and clubs are true to locals and support each other,” Mr Fox said. “We do really well to combat the strength of the competition. “Everything they can do, we can do just as well.” Mr Fox said local sign writing businesses including Hyland Fox offered similar pricing and the same level of quality and service when it came between choosing a locally based company over larger metropolitan-based conglomerates. “That sort of rivalry keeps you on your toes and the local competition is good, but the higher level of competition really keeps you focused when it comes to good quality service and products,” he said. Mr Fox has been an owner of the business for over 10 years and fi rst began his career in sign writing and graphic design aged 15 after helping Gerry Hyland in a small workshop next to Gerry’s home. He said he was always drawing and designing from an early age and enjoyed being creative. “When I fi rst started working for Gerry I wasn’t the best graphic designer, but I was eager to learn and had a strong passion for what I was doing,” he said. “I always strived to better myself and grow in the business.” Mr Fox said he never anticipated becoming a business owner, but soon found himself as manager alongside Mr Hyland. “I never went out of my way to become a business owner and in the end the position came to me and I decided to embrace it as I did with all my other roles I worked in at Hyland Fox,” he said. “Maintaining and operating Hyland Fox for years to come will be hard work, but it will reward us at the same time.” MAKING A STATEMENT: Hyland Fox manager David Fox has driven ongoing success at the prominent business.
