44 GREYHOUND RACING OntheLure with DAVID LEWIS e STAR local greyhound, Thanks Tubby looks likely next month to leave the Allendale East kennels of leading trainer David Peckham and do her future racing in WA. The shock announcement comes only a few days after the daughter of Superman and Irish Fantasy ran a record 29.60 seconds over the 512 metre journey at Tara Raceway. Arriving in Mount Gambier in February with only an Ipswich maiden win to her name, Thanks Tubby has been a real revelation at the local track following six wins from eight starts. Among the wins have been three 512 metre feature events – the Allestree Holiday Units Grade 5, the Anzac Cup and Damsels Dash in which she defeated Who’s Doing What. And Peckham is hopeful of more feature success before Thanks Tubby, owned at Churchable in Queensland by Jake O’Rourke, moves on. “I had been keen to run her in a bitches only race over 600 metres at Angle Park next week but Jake was a bit reluctant due to the fact that she had never been on the track,” Peckham said. “So I’m now looking at heats of the Premier Boloney Super Challenge over 600 metres at Tara Raceway on June 20 and hopefully will be able to trial over that distance from the new boxes next week. “I will then look at Tara Raceway’s Anniversary Cup over 512 metres in July prior to the proposed relocation to WA.” Peckham said O’Rourke had been in talks with leading WA greyhound identity Dave Robartson regarding the future of Thanks Tubby. Robartson, in partnership with wife Christine, bred and raced High Earner, a winner of 33 races from 69 starts and more than $600,000 in prizemoney. Meanwhile, Thanks Tubby has drawn box one in today’s Gambier Vets Free For All (512m) and obviously will be very hard to beat. Casey, whose fi rst dog was six-race winner Busted Sav back in 2006-07, also has had recent success as an owner with Casarito’s litter brother Volcanic Rock. “I gave him 10 runs and couldn’t win a race so Michael Niele of Berringa Park said he would have a go. He’s now won at Healesville, Geelong and Warrnambool with him.” And Burow tells of another member of the litter called Rhyolite. “She raced on only fi ve occasions and was never ever headed early. Only trouble was she never once beat a dog home either!” Litter for former record WINNING TEAM: Penshurst sporting identities (from left) John Burow, Brendan Casey and Jack Casey along with Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club life member, Michael Robinson pictured with Casarito, a shock winner at Tara Raceway last Friday. Team Penshurst back in business FROM a racing point of view things had been a bit quiet of late for John Burow, Jack Casey and Brendan Casey of Penshurst. Or “Team Penshurst” as they are collectively known. Burow’s former 400 metre record holder at Tara Raceway, Spin A Yarn, has been retired and is now pumping out pups; Rouse Flyer is nearing the end of a wonderful career for Jack Casey while his nephew Brendan’s last winner as a trainer was two years ago with Toot Howl. But Team Penshurst was back in business, albeit a little surprisingly, at Tara Raceway last Sunday afternoon when the Brendan Casey trained Casarito led all the way to win the Produce Store Open Maiden (400m) at the big odds of $26.50. Overall, her litter comprised seven individual winners which collectively won 39 races and more than $95,000 in prizemoney. Time And Tide is also a half-sister to proven producer Up And Away, herself a winner of 19 races and $184,000.
